Lauren is the Curator of the Cambridge University Herbarium (CGE), a member of the RHS Orchid Committee, and the IUCN Species Survival Commission Specialist Groups for Orchids, Palms, and Global Trees. Her botanical research has encompassed a wide range of areas including species conservation, systematics and new species description, e-taxonomy, ethnobotany, and a range of molecular techniques, with fieldwork concentrating in Madagascar and Indonesia. After completing her PhD at the University of East Anglia in association with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew on the phylogenetics of the genus Vanda (Orchidaceae) and, before that, the MSc degree in Plant Diversity (Taxonomy and Evolution) at Reading University, Lauren spent eleven years working at Kew.
